Pardon me if I'm using the wrong program name. I hear about frapping (sp?) a lot when it comes to Maple Videos, and I've been half considering it to make my own stuff, and I have a couple questions, since several people use it on the site.

1: Is Frapping legal?

2: What kind of strain does it put on the game when it running? Not including boss battles.

3: Do I need additional programs to edit or post the video?

4: What's a site where I might be able to download a clean copy of it?

1. Yes, at least to my understanding. The fact that your recording yourself playing a game is fully legal, its what you do with the video footage that could be illegal. For example, recording a concert may be legal but putting that tape on youtube for the world to see may be infringing on copywrite laws. With that said, give credit where it is due, Nexon does not seem to have ever gone after anyone uploading game footage or MMVs using their content. Its good avertiseing for them.

2. If you don't have a TON of harddrive space and alot of extra memory then it will more than likely bring yoru computer to its knees while recording. But most the time when I'm running it I don't notice much differance.

3. Yes when the video is frapped it will be in a raw uncompressed format. I'm sure there are many ways to do this but you will need to compress the video using some sort of codec. VirtualDub is an exelent free program that many professinal video editors use for this kind of conversion. As far as editing your best free option would be Windows Movie Maker. As far as posting the video to youtube it should be very easy as long as you compress the video to a manageable fizesize.

For an example I have a 20 second video on my Desktop that is 259 mgs. Compressed that will be closer to like 5mg.

4. You can google these but I went ahead and did your work for you.

The video contest nexon arranged during it 3rd anniversary involved recording ingame content ofcourse. But i think they mentioned in the terms of contest that the inclusion of the nx logo at the end is required.

Not sure if you got your answer Jeff. Hope this helps:

Fraps is best used as it’s “Full” Version (Registry Key required). It costs about $30, but is well worth the money. The website is http://www.fraps.com/
The freeware version is not even worth using.

The thing about fraps is that it records uncompressed raw data in .AVI format to the Hard Drive, so you're basically eating up Gigs and Gigs of Hard Drive space every few minutes or so (roughly 3G every 5 minutes). But those 3G will compress into about 40MB after you use a compression program like Windows Movie Maker (or VirtualDub, Tsunami Mpeg Encoder, etc.). A full Zakum Run can easily take up 20-30 Gigs of HDD space to record continuously (about 3G+ every 5 mins).

About YouTube
Youtube only allows 1G or 10 mins per movie upload.
The quality is very much compromised as youtube compresses it, so it's almost impossible to read anything. If you are allowed the option to watch the video in High Quality then do so.

Is this a one-time payment, or is it a monthly fee or something like that?

Are you sure? I thought the max upload size was 100 megs
that was a few years ago but it still seems outragious for a video that can't be longer than 10min anyways.

Yep, I double checked. It's 1G (or as they show just over 1000MB):
