| If you want us to leave, then I'll go online and leave, but what about the folks who never use this site? This explanation of Packet Editing is not my own and is only here as information to what is going on:
Packets are how a mutliplayer game communicates with whatever it's talking to (server, another game). Whenever you do something in the game, the game might send a packet out to the server saying what you did. Packets are how the server knows where you are and where you are moving to. It's how other people know as well. Without packets, you could move around in your game, but no one else would see you moving. When you browse the internet, your browser sends packets out asking for a website. The website it receives is also in packets. Messages you send over the internet are in packets. Everything you do on the internet uses packets of some sort. What can you do with packets? That really depends on the game. With some games, you can have full control over everything. With others, packets can do next to nothing. How can you know what you can do? Experimentation is the only way. Once you figure out how to send the correct packets, you can try and see if the game reacts how you wanted. Will packets always work? No. It depends on how the game was programmed. By this, I mean the way the game/server handles packets. You can only find out what works and doesn't work by trying. Some things will appear to work, but actually won't work at all. In most multiplayer games, everything of importance will be checked against information the server has. You have to use packets in order to attempt to trick the server. Packet Editing/Sniffing tools are very popular hacking programs generally used only to hack multiplayer games such as MS. Most game developers have known of these programs and their uses. Most of the games we play have Hacking Prevention systems that block DLL injections to their games, there will always be a way to bypass the system.
So basically some kid was just doing some trial and error with his hacking program and stumbled across killing guilds >.> |

When Calamity was destroyed, I warned them to demote everyone from Junior status, but it didn't help much, and people still got trapped. The best advice I can think of is that if you feel like your guild is about to be hit by this, demote everyone below Jr Master except for one mule, so that if it gets stuck it won't matter.

Isaac (from the sleepywood forums) has a good idea. Keeping one mule with a Jr. Master status wouldn't be a bad idea, just in case. We don't technically have a Master anyways, since Dal left long ago, so appointing a temp Master like that would be our best bet in keeping the guild around, seeing as there must be at least one person left in the guild. |
